Welcome
Hi, my name is Phyllis Bennette and welcome to my e-Portfolio. I currently work in the capacity of a Business Application Advisor for the FedEx Corporation in Irving, Texas. How does Distance Education come into play for me? Well, FedEx Headquarters is actually in Memphis, Tennessee and I'm domiciled 7 hours away on the other side of two states. Thats as close as I get to co-locating next to my co-workers. With 98% of my team located elsewhere, I have to devise means to communicate efficiently and effectively with them. Many of the services (including educational) I access are via the intranet and meetings are conducted synchronously. However, much of our communication is conducted asynchronously across groups, companies and the globe. We are an international company. Selecting the most appropriate communication tool and knowing how to address transactional distance is a challenge. With that said, the study of Distance Education actually compliments my current position and also my background as an secondary educator.
A Different Kind of Journey
From the moment we are born, we are engaged in learning. Our first lesson is survival, but life itself is an education and it contains many undetermined and insightful roads, paths and passage ways filled with lessons and opportunities for growth. For me, among those roads were paths to an undergraduate degree in Business Computer Information Systems and a masters in Computer Education and Cognitive Systems both from the University of North Texas. My latest educational path has taken me to the online dual MBA/Master of Distance Education program at UMUC.
